1. In a sense, Seventeen Seconds is the beginning of a trilogy of sorts, the emptiness that leads to the questioning and eventual madness of the subsequent work. Mostly forgotten outside of the unforgettable single "A Forest," Seventeen Seconds is an even, subtle work that grows on the listener over time.6/

3. On Seventeen Seconds, the keyboards are a significant part of the sound, although the stripped back guitar that was very much a feature of TIB is still there. The somewhat hypnotic (and melodic) bass lines are superbly mixed on this digital remaster, and the almost programmed and synthesised sounding drums give a backdrop sound that is very /5(92).

6. A minimalist masterpiece, Seventeen Seconds blurs the boundry between rock and art. Although it reflects Smith's "I'm arty" attitude of the time, with the blurred cover and oddball pieces like "The Final Sound", the band puts up, it doesn't shut up, to use an apt cliché/5().
