His notes are open and round, his music fits like a well worn pair of pleated khaki trousers and penny loafers, where his release of Soul Station floats across the room caressing each of the listeners with an effortlessness of sheer perfection, all while the likes of /5().

  3. There are many excellent Hank Mobley records, and thankfully Blue Note has been quite good about reissuing them on CD. "Soul Station," along with "Workout," is the most consistently satisfying. The lineup tells you that you will be hearing a professional presentation of the music: Mobley, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art /5(16).

  4. Essential jazz album. This is not only a great collaboration but arguably some of Mobley’s greatest work. It’s a shame Hank Mobley is not more widely recognized. He was prolific and unique but in a sea of other idiosyncratic artists at the time. Must have on vinyl to get the subtleties and hard bop swag of Mobely’s Sax and Blakey’s drums/5(48).
